Which laser wavelength is recommended for metal drilling versus plastics?
Standard 1064 nm fiber lasers are ideal for deep micro-drilling, cutting, and welding of stainless steel, carbon steel, titanium, and brass. For delicate polymers, PET, PP, or glass, ultraviolet (355 nm) or green (532 nm) laser sources are required to execute cold photo-ablation without thermal melting or edge charring.
What is the difference between laser percussion drilling and trepanning?
Percussion drilling uses multiple stationary laser pulses aimed at a single point to melt and punch through material rapidly, making it perfect for small hole diameters. Trepanning involves first creating a pilot hole and then rotating the focused laser beam along a circular contour to cut a precise, larger diameter hole with minimal taper.
